Cobequid Fault at West Advocate

The rugged cliffs between West Advocate and Cape Chignecto are part of the Cobequid Fault, one fault within the larger Minas Fault Zone. If you walk 1 km (0.6 mi) west along the beach, you'll see early Carboniferous sandstones and shales that have been folded in the fault zone, leading to a large landslide on this quickly eroding coastline. On leaving the Park, check out Driftwood Beach, where the trees eroded from the cliffs are tossed up by the waves.
